How to choose a dry herb vaporizer

The right vaporizer completely changes the experience: cleaner vapour, better flavour and no combustion. But between convection, conduction, portable and desktop it's easy to get lost. Here's how to choose without mistakes.

Convection, conduction or hybrid?

This is the most important difference. In conduction vaporizers the herb touches a hot surface directly: they're faster, more compact and cheaper, but the heat is less even and you have to be careful not to scorch.

In convection vaporizers it's hot air that passes through the herb: even heating, fuller flavour and no burnt spots. They cost more but are the best choice for quality. Hybrid models combine the two.

Portable or desktop?

A portable is practical, discreet and usable anywhere: perfect for most people. A desktop offers more powerful, consistent vapour and is made for home or group sessions.

If it's your first vaporizer, start with a good portable convection or hybrid with a replaceable battery.

The right temperature

Temperature decides yield and type of effect. Roughly: 170–185°C for light, aromatic vapour, 185–200°C for a good balance, 200–220°C for denser, more intense vapour.

That's why it pays to choose a model with precise temperature control (by degree, not just presets): it lets you find your ideal spot.

Chamber, maintenance and details

Check the chamber capacity (0.3–0.5 g works for most), ease of cleaning and availability of spares (mouthpieces, filters, battery). A good grinder with an even grind noticeably improves vaporization.

Regularly clean the chamber and vapour path with isopropyl alcohol: it keeps flavour and performance.

In short: which to choose

First purchase on a budget: a conduction portable from a reliable brand. Want the best flavour: a convection/hybrid portable with temperature control. Heavy home use: a desktop. In all cases, choose original brands with a warranty — that's what you'll find in our vaporizers section.

FAQ

Convection or conduction — which is better?

Convection gives more even vapour and better flavour; conduction is faster and cheaper. For quality and flavour, choose convection or hybrid.

What temperature do you vaporize at?

Generally between 170 and 220°C: lower for light, aromatic vapour, higher for dense, intense vapour. Precise temperature control helps you find the ideal point.

Do I need a grinder?

Yes: an even grind increases the surface exposed to heat and improves yield and flavour. A multi-chamber grinder with a pollen catcher is ideal.
